Privacy Notice
Last updated: October 10, 2026
PlumbingExam.ca is operated by Jamie Klazinga ("we", "us"), who is the data controller for the personal data described in this notice. This notice explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and your rights.
What we collect
- Account data: your email address and login credentials, used to create and secure your account.
- Usage data: your quiz answers, scores, bookmarks, flashcard progress, and study activity, used to provide the Service and show your progress.
- AI helper messages: the questions you ask the AI study helper, used to answer you and improve the Service.
- Support messages: anything you send us when you contact us.
- Technical data: device identifiers, browser type, and IP address, used for security, fraud prevention (including enforcing the one-device rule), and keeping the Service running.
Payment details (card numbers) are collected and processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record — we never see or store your card number.
Why we use it (legal basis)
- To provide the Service — performing our contract with you: account access, quizzes, progress tracking, premium access.
- Legitimate interests — security, fraud prevention, enforcing account rules, and improving the Service.
- Legal obligations — records we must keep for tax and accounting.
- Consent — where we ask for it, such as optional marketing emails; you can withdraw consent at any time.
Who we share it with
- Service providers that host and operate the Service (cloud hosting, database, and authentication infrastructure), bound by their own data-protection obligations.
- Paddle, our Merchant of Record, for the sale of Premium, subscription management, payments, tax compliance, and invoicing.
- Professional advisers (legal, accounting) where needed.
- Authorities where required by law.
We do not sell your personal data.
Retention
We keep your data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards (for example, purchase records for tax purposes). When data is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised.
Your rights
You can request access to your personal data, correction of inaccurate data, deletion of your account and data, or a copy of your data in a portable format. You can also object to certain uses or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To exercise any of these rights, email jamieklaz@gmail.com. We respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and access controls that limit who can see personal data.
Cookies
The Service uses essential cookies and browser storage only — to keep you signed in and remember your session. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. You can clear cookies in your browser settings, but signing in will no longer work without the essential ones.
International transfers
Some of our service providers process data outside Canada. Where they do, we rely on contractual safeguards designed to protect your data to a comparable standard.
