Plumbing Practice Tests: How to Use Them to Actually Pass
Updated 2026-10-05
There are no shortcuts or "cheat sheets" of real exam questions. Real exam questions are confidential, and memorizing recalled questions doesn't teach you the trade. What works is practicing original questions and understanding why each answer is right.
Start with a diagnostic
Take one test across every subject before you start studying. Your results show where to spend your time.
Read the explanation every time
Even when you get a question right, read the explanation. If you guessed, you haven't learned it yet.
Practice under time pressure
Once your scores are steady, switch to timed, full-length practice exams. Pacing is a skill and it improves with practice.
Track by subject, not just total score
A 75% overall can hide a 50% in venting. Watch your score in each subject and keep drilling the low ones.
Use the code book alongside
When you miss a code question, find the answer in the Ontario Building Code yourself. Looking it up builds the habit of knowing where things are.
This guide is a study aid, not legal advice. Always confirm requirements in the current Ontario Building Code.
